Superman & Ironman on Team Management

Superman & Ironman on Team Management

So one of the most stressful things for a practice that’s over 100 patient visits a week is managing your team and in this short video I’m going to give you a lesson from superman and ironman on team management and I know it’s going to help.

One of the things that doctors tell me all the time is that they resent having to be a manager and a leader and a team member. I was trained to be a chiropractor; I wasn’t trained to put my business together. I haven’t been trained in training and all those other things that are necessary in order to have a great practice. What can superman and what can ironman teach us about managing our team?

Well, superman has super powers. He comes from krypton and he’s got super strength, he’s got x-ray vision and he can fly. He’s got those super powers. Sometimes doctors think they have to have super powers in order to be able to be a good team leader, well you don’t.

See ironman is just an ordinary guy in an extraordinary suit. I’m going to tell you this is what I found for myself and for many hundreds of people that I’ve coached, is that you can be an ordinary person in a set of management templates and do what feels like paint by the numbers and end up looking like a genius so that your team is running smoothly. In this next segment, I’ll give you an example of one of those.

One of the templates that I use in order to be a good leader and a good manager is an office meeting agenda. I teach every single person on my team how we use the agenda, I assign responsibility to the agenda, and I basically sit in the team as they do their office meeting and I watch the template (the ironman suit instead of the super power) take over and make office meetings super, super easy.

I have a template for correction. I end up seeing somebody coming late after lunch or somebody not doing their job position and I’ve got a template that starts with, “Hey I noticed this, what’s up with that?” It goes forward in a procedure so that I can find out where the problem is and deliver a correction and put the responsibility in the employees lap so that they can make the change. I’ve got another template for doing employee evaluations so there is a specific template that we fill out.

All the things that you need to do in order to manage your practice are available in templates so you don’t have to be superman you can be ironman: an ordinary person in an extraordinary suit or set of templates. Then you learn how to use the templates and you teach your team how to be responsible to the templates and it’s actually fun and super, super low stress.

Now, I’m going to be teaching a bunch of these templates in what we call High Volume, Low Stress. Get it? High volume, low stress, how do we get the low stress, by applying templates. I’ll be doing that in Chicago on the 2nd and 3rd of June and in Seattle on the 9th and 10th. There’s a button on this page someplace and if you want to reduce your stress and operate in an extraordinary set of templates come and join us. You can do that for $49 a seat, it’s incredibly low. We want to show you what other people who are using those templates also have to say about how low stress their practice is.

This is Dr. Noel Lloyd for Five Star Management. I want you to be ironman; you don’t have to be superman. Isn’t that nice to know?
